Interested in joining the Venture for America team? We look for the same qualities in full-time team members as we do in our Fellows; after all, we’re a startup ourselves, and we’re on the hunt for smart, tenacious go-getters to propel the VFA rocketship to ever greater heights.

Does this sound like you?

  • You’re comfortable operating under ambiguity, and you don’t wait around to be told what to do — instead, you’re figuring out how you can add value.
  • You’re smart and a quick study, ready to solve problems big and small.
  • You’re high-character, and people like working with you.
  • You’re a strong communicator and a solid writer. You can crank out compelling, on-message emails to different audiences without missing a beat.
  • Above all else, you’re passionate about Venture for America’s mission. You would have jumped at the opportunity to be a Fellow yourself.

If so, we want you on the VFA team! Here are some of the reasons why we love working at VFA, and why we think you will, too:

  • You’ll earn a competitive salary with health, dental, and vision benefits.
  • We have some nice perks, like regular team lunches and weekly gym mornings.
  • You’ll have a ton of autonomy, and be trusted to self-manage and solve problems creatively.
  • You’ll work alongside a team of crazy motivated, high-caliber people who also have a lot of fun together, from impromptu crockpot cookoffs to quarterly team appreciation days.
  • You’ll suddenly have less trouble getting out of bed and going to work in the morning.

Bottom line: we work hard, we get a lot done, but we recognize that you’re a real person with a life outside of your job. And the best part? We’re hiring now.

Summer Internship Program

We’re currently seeking highly motivated college students to join our team and help make sure Training Camp 2015 goes off without a hitch. Training Camp is a rigorous 5-week program, held on campus at Brown University from June 21 to July 24, that will prepare the 2015 class of VFA Fellows to hit the ground running. We’re looking for energetic, reliable team players who are excited to work closely with a VFA team, while still pitching in each day to ensure that Training Camp’s many (many) moving parts run smoothly.

This internship runs from June-August, with some flexibility around start and end dates. Before and after Training Camp, you’ll work from VFA headquarters in NYC.

  • Are a student at a top college or university, in any major.
  • Have had one or more previous internships or other professional experience.
  • Demonstrate next-level organizational skills and attention to detail.
  • Have the ability to prioritize and manage multiple tasks simultaneously, often at nontraditional hours, with a good attitude.
  • Are a team player who feels that no task is too small. You’re ready to take out the trash, fix A/V problems, and do whatever it takes to keep Training Camp running seamlessly.
  • Demonstrate excellent communication skills and can represent VFA professionally while interacting with Fellows, high-level supporters, and other Training Camp guests.
  • Have strong values alignment with VFA and are excited about our mission.

What you’ll do:

  • Work full-time in Providence, RI from June 20-July 24, and from VFA’s headquarters in New York City before and after Training Camp.
  • Be part of the core team managing daily operations at Training Camp, including the schedule and other logistical details.
  • Serve as a capable utility player. You’ll do everything from preparing materials for training sessions to working with outside vendors to setting up spaces for events.
  • Pick up and drop off VFA guests and supporters, often serving as the first point of contact for Training Camp trainers.
  • Work closely with one team (communications, events, operations, or Fellow experience), where you’ll manage at least one project that will serve as the capstone of your internship.

The good stuff:

  • We treat our interns like VFA team members. We’ll give you lots of responsibility from day one, and you’ll have an opportunity to make a real impact on a small but growing team.
  • Get an inside look at a training program for top college grads as they prepare to start work at startups and growth companies.
  • Be part of a fun, friendly team while developing professionally.
  • Turn your summer internship into long-term professional opportunities with VFA.
  • This internship is unpaid, but we’ll cover your room, board, and travel expenses while in Providence (you’ll secure your own housing while in NYC), and offer performance-based bonuses.

How to apply:

Talent Operations Associate

Venture for America is looking for a Talent Operations Associate to help manage the entire Fellowship application and selection process, from soup to nuts. An analytical, process-oriented team player, he or she will carry out current practices as well as innovate and improve upon existing systems. The Talent Operations Associate will master our application and review software, coordinate with team VFA and Fellows to execute VFA’s world-class internal applicant review process, and help select future cohorts of builders.

  • Have 2+ years of relevant professional experience
  • Are ridiculously organized and process-oriented
  • Are as flexible as Gumby, as adaptable as a chameleon, and a faster learner than Jimmy Neutron
  • Could basically teach a class on Excel. You manipulate large data sets to extrapolate trends and draw conclusions even before you’ve had your first coffee of the morning
  • Are an email ninja. You communicate in the warm, friendly (and typo-free!) “VFA voice” and document all interactions in Salesforce without breaking a sweat
  • Can juggle—that is, prioritize and manage multiple tasks simultaneously
  • Hate excuses; no matter what, you get things done and do them well
  • Thrive under pressure and fit in well in a fast-paced, deadline-driven startup environment
  • Love VFA. Our mission, culture, team: you can’t get enough

What you’ll do:

  • Coordinate the nuts and bolts of the four-part VFA Fellowship selection process using our application and review tracking software
  • Create and execute processes to increase efficiency and improve existing practices
  • Monitor data integrity, troubleshoot bugs, generally problem-solve
  • Analyze data to draw conclusions about the applicant pool and reviewer trends
  • Communicate with applicants via email to answer questions
  • Document interactions with candidates in Salesforce, pull reports, etc. to ensure all information relating to candidacy is tracked
  • Evaluate submissions to help select the next class of Fellows
  • Oversee progress of team and Fellow reviewers to ensure all reviews are complete by set deadlines
  • Assist with efforts to scale application/selection infrastructure and processes

The good stuff:

  • High performers at VFA are given substantial opportunity to grow and develop
  • Know that you do every day is having a real positive impact on individuals, organizations, and the country!
  • You’ll earn a competitive salary, commensurate with experience, plus health, dental, and vision benefits
  • VFA is a dynamic startup environment with varied responsibilities and a different challenge each day (we mean it – always plenty of interesting problems to work on!)
  • You’ll work alongside a team of crazy motivated, high-caliber people

How to apply:

To apply, please fill out our application. If you meet our specifications, we will contact you for a phone interview.
