GenomOncology is pioneering a revolutionary technology that can rapidly and interactively analyze and interpret sequenced genomic data. Their approach enables them to capture critical findings for the cancer researcher or clinical oncologist and produce a robust analysis report in less than a day. The company is helmed by Manuel Glynias, who leverages his 25 years in bioinformatics, and an all-star team of researchers and technologists.
While it is still early days for this Cleveland-based startup, GenomOncology has already grown from 8 employees to 20 in the space of a year. They recently became the exclusive commercial partner of MyCancerGenome.org, and received investment from TriStar Technology Ventures in February 2014. The founders are currently spending a lot of time on the road introducing the technology at industry conferences, while developing research partnerships with universities.
Eric Olson, a VFA Fellow who majored in Biomedical Engineering at the University of Virginia, joined GenomOncology as a Genomics Analyst in May 2013. He says:
“The app is just about to be finished and released to our first clients; so we’ve begun end to end testing with real data. During one of our testing runs, we discovered a mutation that would not have been found if you were using any other tool but our software. Our CEO gave a demo on this case the next day at a sales meeting, and the discovery directly led to us being a front runner to win that client .It’s been really cool to see all the functionality that I played an integral role in defining and designing actually work.”
