Innovation Fund 2017: Sweat Seal

The 2017 Innovation Fund, our annual crowdfunding competition, has officially launched! You can find all of the Innovation Fund participants here. Read on for the story of Sweat Seal, the underarm sweat absorbing shields to stop pit stains created by Frederick Adenuga ’15.

Sweat Seal: The Story

I don’t sweat many things, but with one glaring exception…my clothes.
Growing up in Florida, sweating is just a part of life one must accept. For me in particular, sweating always had a side effect I just did not know how to avoid. Pit Stains.
Deodorants just made me smell nice, antiperspirants burned, and underarm botox…no.  The only thing that ever worked for me was when I put napkins down my shirt to absorb the sweat before my shirt did.
Napkins were less messy, more reliable, and far simpler than any antiperspirant I had. But, anytime I would use them to prevent sweat stains, I thought to myself ‘why isn’t there something that I could wear that would absorb sweat like these napkins’? That’s how Sweat Seal was born.

Sweat Seal: Not an ordinary seal

I wanted Sweat Seal to be something people did not have to think about. Something that, regardless of the time of day, if a person needed a little extra protection from sweat stains, they could put on a Sweat Seal and get on with their day.

It took a little over 3 years to find just the right mix of materials and shape to make Sweat Seal the best anti-sweat stain product on the market. From odor-neutralizing absorbing fibers, to patented skin safe adhesives, Sweat Seal has the good stuff built into it. And, for people like me, it’ll be a product they’ll never want to be without. Thankfully, many people seem to like the idea so far because in less than a week we met our initial funding goal! It’ll always be my goal to get people sealed!

Sweat Seal: Beyond Seals

I see Sweat Seal as a fashion utility more than anything. After this first crowdfunding campaign, I plan on growing Sweat Seal into a line of products all aimed at stopping sweat stains.
That’s what we’re going to be good at, stopping sweat stains. Sweating is natural, deodorants are not.

VFA Has Ceased Operations

Since its first cohort in 2012, Venture For America (VFA) has championed entrepreneurship, innovation, and economic growth across the nation. As of August 6, 2024, VFA has ceased its operations. While this marks the end of an era, it also provides an opportunity to reflect on the extraordinary accomplishments and lasting impact that we have achieved together.
