Modernizing Democracy with Liv Stromme

Liv Stromme ’17

Liv Stromme has always been passionate about policy and technology. In fact, it was while working for the legislature in North Dakota as the Assistant to the House Majority Leader after graduating that she learned about VFA. Liv was pondering what her next career move should be, but all she knew was that she wanted to further explore the intersection of policy and technology. A friend suggested VFA as an option, and Liv found herself growing steadily more interested in the opportunity to learn about how entrepreneurial ecosystems could affect the economic trajectories of locales like her hometown’s.

Getting Out The Vote

Getting Out The Vote

“There’s not a more interesting problem in the entire world than modernizing democracy,” Liv says. “You can’t convince me otherwise.” Liv found her fit as a Customer Success Specialist at Votem, a mobile voting platform designed to securely cast votes in elections across the globe by building a secure, transparent and cost-effective platform. Liv works with state and local officials to utilize Votem at primaries, particularly in the state of Montana, and works with individuals ranging from secretaries of state to state election directors. She also gets to run elections for quirkier clients, like the Radio Hall of Fame. “I also get to use social branding and social media skills,” Liv says, adding that her projects range from email marketing to crafting recruitment messages for particular audiences.

Her Cleveland Community

Her Cleveland Community

In addition to loving her work at Votem, Liv is also grateful for the community that has formed around her from literally day one. At Selection Day, before Liv ever became a Fellow, she and the girl sitting next to her got along so well that they joked they’d be best friends. Now, in Cleveland, she and her best friend Casey Grammar are also co-founders, working to democratize self-care in their spare time. Liv and Casey are working on Jubilee Plant Box, a self-care subscription box containing succulents, affirmations, and other methods that will allow subscribers to rest and refresh.

"I'm thrilled to be working in an environment where all of my friends are really passionate about solving problems in the communities we work in."
