Press Release: Venture For America Expands to Kansas City
With the support of the Kauffman Foundation, Venture For America will send recent college graduates to contribute to high-growth startups in Kansas City.
New York, NY [December 6, 2016] – Venture For America, a Fellowship program that empowers enterprising recent grads to launch their careers as entrepreneurs and revitalize American cities, announced today that it will expand its operations to Kansas City. VFA currently partners with startups, business leaders and foundations in 17 US cities and aims to generate new U.S. jobs by providing early-stage companies the talent they need to thrive by training a critical mass of top graduates to become business builders and job creators. VFA Fellows and Partner Companies have contributed to the creation of over 2,000 new jobs in the United States.
“Our goal at Venture For America is to put more of our young people in a position to contribute to economic development in American cities and communities,” said Andrew Yang, Founder & CEO of Venture For America. “Kansas City is a natural choice for expansion as it has tremendous assets and entrepreneurs as well as exciting growth companies. We are thrilled to partner with the Kauffman Foundation to bring bright and talented college graduates to the City of Fountains.”
”As a growing entrepreneurial city, Kansas City is primed for Venture For America’s keen ability to cultivate future entrepreneurs by matching them with startups,” said Victor Hwang, vice president of Entrepreneurship at the Kauffman Foundation. “Kansas City startups will gain as much as the VFA Fellows who will apprentice in these emerging companies.”
VFA Fellows accepted into the Class of 2017 will attend a five-week training program in June to prepare for their roles at startups. In August 2017, Venture For America Fellows matched with startups in Kansas City will begin their two-year fellowships, serving as core members at growth companies while receiving first-hand experience in building a startup and helping Kansas City entrepreneurs expand and scale. This two- year grant will bring seven to 10 Fellows to Kansas City each year.
“We see tremendous potential in the Kansas City entrepreneurial ecosystem,” said Yang. “We hope to seed this next generation of entrepreneurs with the skills, experience and networks they need to one day become successful entrepreneurs that create enduring jobs in Kansas City and across the country.”
Venture For America is currently looking for startup partners interested in hiring a Venture for America Fellow. For more information contact Tom Griffin at email@example.com.
